Hub owner Marcus Kjeldsen has a passion for live music.  He also has a passion for sharing music with the Cedar Falls community.

For more than two years, Kjeldsen has been making 406 Main Street, home of the Hub, a place for people to relax and enjoy live music.

"I want people to come here for their love of live music," Kjeldsen said.

With its live music and genuine atmosphere, the Hub offers young and old a unique experience. The Hub hosts live music every Tuesday through Saturday from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. and occasionally on Sundays and Mondays.

"We want the Hub to be a cool place for people to go," Kjeldsen said. "We want to offer something that is not offered at every other corner bar."

The Hub is not only for people who already love live music, but also for people who want to explore it.

"For the people who already are live music fans, I want them to be able to come here and enjoy the music," Kjeldsen said. "But for people who aren't necessarily live music fans, we want to help them become fans. It's exposing people to the live music that will morph them into a live music fan."

Kjeldsen said that many of his employees began to work at the Hub because they  already enjoy music performances, but some employees have also become live music fans by working at the Hub.

"It's a laid back atmosphere where I get to experience something that I already love,"  said Hub employee, Jill Hannasch.

Kjeldsen said that the Hub takes a lot of pride in the production of their shows, from the lighting, and  sound to the overall setup of the stage.

"I know that we can put on a good quality music show, so we focus on that," he said.

The Hub features a variety of different music genres.  It mainly features rock and roll, reggae, alternative, jazz, blues and country. A few of the most popular bands are Stabledaze, Barefoot Compadres, The Nadas, Hello Dave, Pork Tornados, Public Property and Damon Dotson.

Kjeldsen's main criterion for choosing what music is played at the Hub is that the music must be good.  Not just by Kjeldsen's taste, but also by the taste of his customers.

"No matter what genre, there has to be a certain quality to the music," Kjeldsen said.

But aside from music, the Hub also offers a unique atmosphere.  "We have an easy going and relaxed atmosphere," Kjeldsen said.  "The overall theme is a fun, warm and inviting atmosphere."

The layout of the Hub is split into two main sections.  One section gives customers a place to chill out, watch television, play pool, darts and more.  The other section features a large stage that allows customers to rock out.

Kjeldsen added that the Hub is a place that is not only for college kids.  The Hub hosts bands that appeal to a wide range of age groups.  The Hub has all-ages shows that bring in a wide demographic.

"Our target market is anyone who loves music," Kjeldsen said.  "We range from high school students to grandmas in wheelchairs."

But the Hub does more than just entertain; it also gives back to the Cedar Falls community.  The Hub helps raise money for various organizations through community benefits and fundraisers.  The Hub has raised money for organizations such as the Relay for Life and for individuals in need.
