Just in time for more cold weather, Pangos has opened for business in the Thunder Ridge Court. Specializing in surplus merchandise, the store carries seasonal stock and currently has a large inventory of winter coats and jackets.
Pangos sells inventory that has already been produced by the manufacturer, but canceled by the retail seller. The canceled goods are then bought wholesale and sold to the public for less than retail.
The large volumes of stock mean not only deals for the average consumer, but also a sufficient number of jackets and coats available to local businesses for use as company jackets.
The name Pangos comes from the combination of two words. The Greek prefix “pan-,” meaning “everything,” and the English “go,” combine to form “everything [must] go.”
Jim Benda, a local real estate agent, provided the space for the store. In cooperation with various manufacturers, Pangos plans to distinguish itself from other retail stores by selling reduced price wears which may be more beneficial for consumers operating in the current economic situation. The sale of excess stock allows manufacturers to sell otherwise unsold products.
The newly-opened Pangos is functioning as a test store, assessing the local economy’s interest in overstock stores. If enough interest rises, plans will be made to expand with more stores across the state.
“We want Pangos to be a regional thing,” said Benda. “We think people will be very interested in these stores, especially with this economy.”
Pangos is also rejuvenating interest in the Thunder Ridge Court.
“Hopefully Pangos can attract more activity to the mall, along with interest in other Pangos locations,” Benda said.
Pangos doesn’t plan to only sell coats, but will rely on a cycling stock of seasonal excess merchandise, from their current stock of coats, to swimwear and handbags slated for spring.
“We’re always looking for local and regional manufacturers with overstock,” Benda said.
Pangos is located in the Thunder Ridge Court on West 1st Street in Cedar Falls, next to CVS/pharmacy.
