Main Street Dining at its Finest

Living in Cedar Falls, we are blessed with many options of fine dining within a short drive of campus. One of the best dining experiences available in the city is conveniently located downtown on Main Street. MyVerona Ristorante Italiano is a beautiful facility located at 419 Main St., near the Cedar Falls Public Library. Their menu features northern Italian cuisine, centered around the city of Verona. They have a wide assortment of unique appetizers, main courses, pasta and pizza. A lot of their main dishes are not the standard Italian fare, and feature unique ingredient selections.

I visited myVerona on a Monday evening, and did not have to wait at all to be seated. Their website (http://www.my-verona.com), however, recommends that you make a reservation to ensure prompt seating, and you are able to do so directly from the site. The service was extremely prompt and polite, and the atmosphere was very classy. I was immediately served with a glass of water and a basket of assorted breads, all of which tasted fresh and were delicious and varied in flavor.  After I had placed my order, one of the wait staff brought me an interesting little sample, compliments of the kitchen, featuring a small bit of marinated crab atop a slice of cucumber. It was an interesting combination of flavors, and was surprisingly good. My main dish, cheese ravioli, was also extremely good. The pasta was a little underdone for my taste, but it was still delicious and just a little bit different from what I anticipated. The dessert, however, is what really made the evening. It was a dish called chocolate "salami" on the menu, but it certainly didn't taste like salami. The dish was chocolate mousse with white chocolate and raspberry sauce. It was simply amazing.

Overall, myVerona was extremely impressive in every aspect. The price is probably a bit out of most college students' normal budgets, but if you're looking for somewhere nice for a date or to meet your parents for dinner, this is the place to go.
