The University of Northern Iowa International Services Office (ISO) will soon change its name to the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO).

Ross Schupbach, UNI international student advisor, said the new name better reflects who the office serves and is consistent with the names of “similar offices at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University.”
“With this name change, we will be able to tell the community that we are here for international issues and that we are here to not only serve students, but scholars as well,” Schupbach said. “… Making the name more similar will also help students and scholars handle the transition from one university to another.”

According to Schupbach, the ISSO provides a variety of services for international students, including setting up academic advising, helping them with orientation, providing programming to help them learn about the United States, helping them keep their immigration records up-to-date and active and helping them find campus employment opportunities.

“We connect (international) students with the opportunities and services they need,” Schupbach said.

The office also handles the visas of students going abroad for a semester and provides advising for students and faculty going overseas.
